The Equality Act 2010 which will be implemented in stages from 1 October 2010 combines nine independent pieces of anti-discrimination legislation such as disability, gender, age, sexual orientation and religion into one piece of legislation. The Act is intended to provide a legislative framework to protect the rights of individuals and advance equality of opportunity for all. It is aimed at delivering a simple and accessible framework of discrimination law which protects individuals from unfair treatment and promotes a fair and more equal society. So, it may be a simple and accessible framework but it’s one you need to know about and act on to avoid discrimination not only to promote a fair and more equal society but to protect your business from the disruption and the high costs associated with discrimination claims.
