East Durham College transforms HR with iTrent

East Durham College has signed a five year in-house contract for MidlandHR’s iTrent. Operating across two campuses in Peterlee and Houghall near Durham, the college also offers courses in local community venues, as well as providing work force development within individual work places across the county. iTrent will provide one single solution for managing the HR, payroll, talent management and workforce planning needs of around 600 employees.

Deborah Ebdy, the college’s HR manager, explains: “Our primary requirement for the system was to improve the recording of our staff members’ continuing professional development while at the same time providing them with self service access to independently track and manage their learning and development opportunities. Self service will also help us increase the accuracy of employee data by giving our people access to and control over their own personal details. Both manager and employee self service will be extremely important for the college moving forwards and we were impressed by iTrent’s rich functionality in this area.

MidlandHR has a well deserved reputation for being able to meet the education sector’s specific requirements and, combined with its impressive customer base of schools, colleges and universities across the UK, it was obvious that we needed to speak to them. Having seen iTrent in action, we came to a final decision based on iTrent’s user-friendly interface. The rich functionality supports modern business methods and strategic HR capabilities allowing us to instantly access detailed people information and analytics, especially around the area of talent management which is a particular focus for us. The support that we have received through the initial project phase has been fantastic and we’ve been delighted by MidlandHR’s collaborative partnership approach.”

Iain Moffat, managing director of MidlandHR, adds: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with East Durham College and anticipate high levels of value in use due to the very nature and objectives of their project. As well as streamlining the general HR and payroll process across the board, iTrent will provide the strategic capability to enable focused learning and informed workforce decision making. This will be possible through highly visible and varied workforce data and powerful analytical capabilities delivered through the single iTrent system. Our comprehensive understanding of the education sector will provide the college with expert, best practice support from day one and we look forward to a long and prosperous partnership with the college going forward.”

iTrent will be implemented in two phases, beginning immediately with core HR and CPD records and then moving on to payroll, with a view to being live in October. Other modules selected as part of core HR include Absence Management, Learning, and Manager & Employee Self Service.
